Camembert- you make me melt...

To me, wine and cheese night is the perfect night in. Its simple, its easy and its always delightful. It’s a perfect combination that allows you to embrace your inner middle-aged self. Whilst getting quite tipsy (and remaining classy) you can forget about the hangover because you will have eaten your body weight in cheese.

Don’t know your Chardonnay from your Sauvignon Blanc or your Manchego from your Gorgonzola? Neither. I like to scoop a little of everything into one mouthful- doughy bread, soft cheese, tapenade and a grape (if it will fit). This isn’t how the French would do it- but it all tastes good.

Top tips:

  • Start with the mildest cheese first and progress to the strongest. e.g. The Italian cream cheese to the Roquefort

  • Mature cheeses go best with acidic wine, whereas creamy cheeses pair better with sweet wine

  • Vary your board with different textures and strengths of cheeses

  • Add sweet fruits and tangy olives to compliment

  • Serve with a selection of bread and crackers. Blue cheese goes well with Ciabatta, whereas the spreadable, milder cheeses pair best with crackers.

  • Mix and match- try everything in one bite!

Up to no Gouda...

All the food was under £20, and feeds plenty. Tell your guests to bring wine and this is a simple, cheap and delicious meal!
